BAU-TV – Images, Insights, Impressions
BAU-TV – that´s a compilation of fascinating images from BAU 2011 and insights into all the action at the fair. In a series of short film reports we look into the key themes of each day. We talk to exhibitors and visitors, and we highlight the future of building. It´s a great way of reliving this exciting and inspiring event.

This film report looks first at the "Long Night of Architecture". This event was a chance to take a close-up look at the architectural highlights of Munich, on a night-time excursion around the Bavarian capital. We jointed those architecture buffs on the tour, and put together some of the best moments for you. Also worth seeing – the second topic in this film report – was one of the special shows at BAU, on the subject of "Textile Architecture". Here we were shown how foils and membranes are being used in building to create highly innovative and spectacular results.

For the last time: Manger & Arend chew over the final day´s events.

The second-to-last edition of our BAU-TV magazine program is dedicated to the skilled trades and training. We accompany a group of trainee carpenters as they tour the fair. And, in this focus on the trades, we also find out about those all-important new products that make the job of the tradesmen easier.
And, one other thing we simply had to look in on: the DETAIL awards ceremony.

Today, again: BAU Talks with Manger & Arend
Thursday, 20 January 2011

In today´s edition of the BAU-TV magazine program, we first look into what´s behind the term "Building for Life". We find out how houses can be designed so that several generations can live together happily under one roof, regardless of whatever handicaps individuals might have. BAU-TV tours a model for a "Generation House", designed and set up especially for BAU 2011. The second major theme is "Design". Many booths at the exhibition were the creation of famous designers, and among the exhibits, too, there are many exclusive objects made of exotic materials.

Today Manger & Arend discuss what older people need from their houses.

The future of building is the motto of today´s program. We hear from visionaries like Professor Dr. Wolfgang Sattler from the Bauhaus University of Weimar and Professor Dr.-Ing. Klaus Sedlbauer, Chairman of the Fraunhofer Building Innovation Alliance.

The future of building was very definitely on show here, in the shape of the Solar House designed by students from the University of Applied Sciences of Rosenheim. This house, which won second place in the international universities competition "Solar Decathlon", is an outstanding example of how ideas can become reality. It not only produces its own energy and uses it efficiently, it scores points for looks, too. BAU-TV is shown around this clever, futuristic construction by an expert.
Rounding up the report: Manger & Arend with their epilogue on the future of building.

Today´s edition of our magazine program is dedicated to technology and science. "Nano and bionics" are key words that are attracting ever more attention, including in the building industry. Tiles that don´t get dirty, and roofing tiles with a "Lotus effect" are just two examples of these technologies in action. The expert on this theme is Professor Dr. Wolfgang M. Heckl, Director of the Deutsches Museum in Munich.

No less futuristic is our second theme today: BAU IT. This is about much more than just pushing a mouse around, says Professor Dr.-Ing. Hans-Jörg Bullinger from the Fraunhofer Institute. Entire houses can be designed with the aid of computers, and building processes monitored, thereby helping to reduce time and costs.

Last but not least: the two building experts Manger & Arend with their views on the day´s themes.

The first edition of our BAU-TV magazine program is dedicated to the themes of "Sustainability" and "Renovation and Modernization". Sustainability is the core theme in this century and it was one of the principal themes at BAU 2011. How is the building industry interpreting this concept? As an expert on the subject, we invited former German environment minister Klaus Töpfer to comment. And of course we are interested in how the exhibitors are implementing these demands for sustainability in their products. In addition we find out when and why concrete is sustainable and what sustainability means in windows and facades.

Research and innovation are also big themes at the German Ministry of Building. Top of the list, according to the Minister of Building, Dr. Peter Ramsauer, are what´s known as "plus-energy houses". Dr. Ramsauer officially opened BAU 2011.

With stagnating population figures and an adequate supply of housing, interest is focusing ever more on how to renovate and modernize the buildings that are already in place. We talk to exhibitors who have some clever and practical solutions.

Two people who have a firm place in these daily reports are Mirko Arend, Exhibition Director of BAU, and Johannes Manger, Press Manager. In their "BAU Talks", they chat informally about the events of each day.
