Themes of the future – Themes at BAU
Some themes are having a major influence on the future of the building and construction industry. They affect planning, design and processing. At BAU 2009 these themes will permeate almost all sections of the exhibition:

  • Energy-efficient building
Rising energy prices, declining raw-materials reserves and growing demand worldwide are increasing the pressure on the building industry to look for energy-saving solutions and concepts. The exhibitors at BAU – e.g. in the ‘Solar Horizons’ section – will be presenting innovations and trends in generating, saving and storing energy.

  • Renovations and modernisation
About 50 % of all housing investments in Euopre go into existing building stock. Renovation and modernisation of buildings is thus one of the most important tasks of the building industry – and an attractive field of business. Therefore, BAU 2009 – in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Housing and the Bundesarbeitskreis Altbauerneuerung –concentrates all initiatives and activities on this topic in one single hall. Independently of this, exhibitors offer specific solutions on renovations and modernisation at their stand.

  • Universal design
Demographic change – by the year 2050 the number of over 80-year-olds will have tripled – means that building for all is gaining more and more public attention. The idea behind universal design is to design public and private buildings in such a way that all people, regardless of physical ability or disability, can use them. BAU will be showcasing current examples and product-specific solutions.
